The increase in fees aligns with Iceland’s endeavor to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040. In 2022, the Icelandic Tourist Board reported a staggering 1.7 million overnight visitors from abroad, underscoring the nation’s immense popularity among tourists.

Venice, Italy, has similar plans to impose fees on day trippers to regulate the influx of tourists, while Bali is set to introduce a tourist tax for foreign visitors in the coming year.
