VisitCanberra, the official tourism body for the capital, has joined forces with Ecotourism Australia, the top representative body for sustainable and ecotourism in the country. The collaboration aims to bolster the growth and fortify the sustainability of tourism offerings in the nation’s capital.
“We are delighted to be collaborating with VisitCanberra to kickstart operators’ sustainability journey with the Strive 4 Sustainability Scorecard and to underscore sustainable tourism as a top priority for the region,” stated Ecotourism Australia’s Chief Executive, Ms. Elissa Keenan.
Modern travelers are increasingly conscious of the positive environmental, community, and cultural impacts of their journeys. They seek businesses that share these principles and actively support sustainable practices.
The partnership between Ecotourism Australia and VisitCanberra will provide direct assistance to a substantial portion of local tourism enterprises. It will educate them about sustainable tourism practices and the growing expectations of travelers in search of sustainable options.
The nation’s capital boasts a wealth of tourism attractions, tours, and a thriving hospitality industry. This commitment by VisitCanberra is a testament to the growing significance of sustainability and its support for local businesses in this endeavor.
The Strive 4 Sustainability Scorecard, developed by Ecotourism Australia with marketing support from founding partner Tourism Australia, offers an accessible entry point for any tourism business to begin their sustainability journey. It is founded on the four pillars of sustainability: sustainable management, environmental responsibility, socio-economic factors, and cultural impact.
Through this scorecard, operators can gain recognition for their existing sustainability practices and receive personalized feedback reports to enhance their sustainability performance. They can also showcase their commitment to sustainability to their guests using their scorecard.
VisitCanberra’s Executive Branch Manager, Jonathan Kobus, noted that there are numerous high-quality tourism businesses in the region eager to embark on their sustainability journey and showcase their eco-friendly practices to guests. The partnership with Ecotourism Australia is a significant step toward fostering and promoting genuinely sustainable experiences within the ACT visitor economy.
The Strive 4 Sustainability Scorecard enjoys the support of several partners across the nation, including the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (Distribution partner), Big Red Group (Key Enablement partner), and industry partners like the Caravan Industry Association of Australia and Accommodation Australia.
Tourism businesses in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) are now eligible to participate in the Strive 4 Sustainability Scorecard, which is funded by VisitCanberra in collaboration with Ecotourism Australia.
