An additional 20 villages have joined the Upgrade Programme, and all 74 villages are now integral members of the UNWTO Best Tourism Villages Network. These designations were formally announced during the UNWTO General Assembly held this week in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili underscores the potential of tourism in fostering inclusivity, community empowerment, and regional prosperity. He states, &#8220;This initiative acknowledges villages that have harnessed tourism as a catalyst for their development and well-being.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A global network of local communities<br>Launched in 2021, the Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO initiative is part of the UNWTO Tourism for Rural Development Programme.
