Art Ichol (a visual arts and multi-skill centre) has opened its doors to responsible cultural tourism with a focus on art and its appreciation & development in rural India.
The foundation offers the unique proposition of its 3 estates, the Art Ichol skill center, The Maihar Heritage Home and Amaria the writer’s retreat. Each offers their own experience.
The Ichol Art center is an amalgamation of art, aesthetics and functionality. It has been astutely devised from scrap and recycled material in an artistic way. It comprises of a bronze casting foundry, an open air sculpture park & performance stage, stone & wood carving workshop, clay modelling room, painter’s studio and art café. There are 4 luxury rooms in the art residency with a fully furnished kitchen for one’s convenience. Car and driver facilities are available on site.
THE MAIHAR HERITAGE HOME
The Maihar Heritage Home and its ancient 100-year-old arches bask in quietude and comfort. On sunny mornings among chirping birds one can sit in its many corners or dabble with clay at the ceramic and pottery center. Lead the good life here after a work-out at the gym or eating organic produce of the home grown vegetable garden. Whether it’s the tender loving care of the staff or help of resident artist’s aids, one is well taken care of here.
AMARIYA – THE WRITER’S RETREAT
The writer’s cottage Amariya is a glorious getaway. Set on the idyllic banks of the river Tamas one can drown in its blissful stillness poised on a hammock. Here the aged mango groves, nearby bridge and watchtower are all one’s companions. The retreat abounds in bird and piscine life, its meandering river turn is the perfect fishing spot and a photographer’s delight at sunset.
The center is the perfect forum for workshops, off site presentations, gatherings, conferences or brainstorming sessions. With its specialized infrastructure and varied venues, Art Ichol poses itself as an unmatched artists’ residency and work space. It is therefore ideal even for long term and extended stays. The foundation aims to support at least 5 underprivileged artists or craftsmen every year, thus reinstating firmly the vision for the center ~ the promotion of the arts and their creators.
